Every Kid Needs a Champion

Many of you have probably seen this Ted Talk before, but I think it is a great reminder, especially as we are about to begin the new school year. There is a big push to use technology in the classroom, and I am definitely one of those behind that push. However, we have to remember that technology cannot replace relationships, and building positive relationships with our students is so very important. Enjoy the video!

  1. Rita's message is indeed inspiring, Brittni. Her powerful stories and her reminder that "kids can't learn from someone they don't like," is a charge for teachers to ensure that the relationships we're building with our students are authentic and push them towards greatness. Thanks for sharing!

  2. I love this TED talk. it seems to make its rounds at the beginning of the school year, but it holds a powerful message: building relationship with students must be a priority if we want them to learn and retain knowledge. We have to make it meaningful to them in a real way.

  3. Wow, I hope I can be as powerful in my classroom as this woman is! She is a very inspiring woman and I love what that she gave her students a mantra about how great they are! I try my best to be positive everyday but it can be hard sometimes. She is right though, every child needs a champion and I do think that people in education strive to help the best that they can. Thank you for posting this, it was a great watch!

    1. I think sometimes the kids that need the most love are also the hardest to love, so it can be tough to always stay positive. I love to watch this video at the beginning of the year to remind me why I chose to be a teacher in the first place and to love those kids that need it most!

  4. Believe it or not, I hadn't seen this before, so I appreciate you sharing it. I think you're right; we should be using technology to increase those relationships with students instead of trying to replace those relationships.
