Google Certification

As part of our professional development, the technology integration specialists in my district have decided we should all become Google Certified Educators. I love everything Google, and I am really excited about this opportunity. I have been working towards preparing for the test to get my certification and thought I would share some resources that I have come across for anyone else who might be interested. Would you have any interest in becoming a Google Certified Educator? Why or why not? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

This resource is my favorite. I found it on ShakeUpLearning.com. It is a table with the different Google apps or concepts and resources to click on for each to familiarize yourself with them. There is a section where you can also mark your comfort level, so you know which apps you should review or spend more time on before taking the test.

This link is exactly what it sounds like, a checklist of all the skills you will need to master before taking the certification exam.

This blogger shares her Google Certification process.

I haven't actually taken these practice exams yet, so I don't know how helpful they will truly be. They are free, so I plan to try them out in the near future.

This link is probably the most trusted and reliable resource as it is straight from the source. Google offers trainings to prepare you for the exam. There are thirteen units with multiple lessons including videos and other resources to help you be successful when taking the exam.

  1. Brittni,

I'm curious, are all of your teachers becoming Google Certified? If so, I love the ambition of your school! I as the tech teacher would like to become Google certified, so I was excited to see that you had written a post about that topic. I'm really anxious to check out the resources you posted and will absolutely be bookmarking for future reference. I'm afraid being Google Certified will have to stay on the back burner for one more year until I earn my Master's Degree, but it is a goal that I will ultimately attain. I am excited for you to start working toward that goal for yourself!

    1. Not all of the teachers are becoming Google Certified. We will have one technology specialist from each building in the district become certified. From there, we do hope to offer it to more teachers and hopefully continue to expand it to where most, if not all, teachers are certified. It will probably take years to get there though!

  2. This is definitely on my list, but like Becky said, "Will have to stay on the back burner". I think more teachers should be Google Certified, especially in my district, we do everything through Google.

    1. I had also planned to keep it on the back burner until I finished the MET program, but it has now moved up. I am the technology integration coach for our district and will be leading a technology cohort in October. We are hoping to make part of the cohort an opportunity for those teachers that participate to become Google Certified, so I have to get my own certification done before then. Our district also does everything through Google, so I am excited to begin this journey!

  3. Those checklists are great. I have even used some of Mr. Curts' slideshows to promote Google Certifications. I'm in the process of getting my Google Trainer video together, which has been more difficult to me than the level 1 and 2 exams. My suggestion for all would be to definitely go through the modules, take notes, and take your time on the actual test.

    1. Thanks for the great advice! That is awesome that you are working on becoming a Google Trainer. Eventually, I would love to do that as well.

  4. Interesting concept. More certifications can't hurt, right? What is the format of the tests?

    1. To be 100% honest, I am not exactly sure as I have not taken them yet. I believe there are several multiple choice questions as well as some performance based areas.

  5. While this may be an embarrassing admission, I was not familiar with this certification before your post. It will definitely be something I look into as soon as I'm done with my this program. Thanks for being so detailed with the resources!
